The Heidelberg Project, Detroit

Started in 1986 by the artist Tyree Guyton, the Heidelburg Project has gone from a “simple” neighborhood clean-up art project to an internationally recognized art instillation and “architectural” phenomena.  Its recognition however has not derailled it from its geniune flavor and ethos.  Most notebly there is no perminant gift shop or java joint spouting “found” coffee. That said, I have spotted a portajohn and there is a lovely little information booth that sells mechandise and books when its proprietor has time to man it.  The Project is located off Mt. Elliot St. at Heidelburg St. on Detroit’s eastside. To read more about The Project check out their website http://www.heidelberg.org/
